This week I was introduced to an anime called Mononoke, it's shown as a terror kind of anime and it's graphics are quite peculiar.
After starting to watch the anime, I decided to look for the meaning of Mononoke in japanese culture and found this amazing movie from Studios Ghibli. I absolutely love their movies and this one wasnt an exception.
The movie is from 1997 but you can't say it has bad quality because of it. I wouldnt put this movie to be watched with kids but some parents said they let so it's their choice. The history is insteresting and it has a beautiful message.I loved everything about the movie, so it's a big 10!
So, what is Mononoke?
I've searched more about it since I couldnt find something alike with the Mononoke anime and the Princess Mononoke movie.
Mononoke is a word used for spirits or monsters. Some people say it refers to vengeful or angry spirits and monster or those who, somehow are feared by the others. The most used term for monsters and spirits is yōkai, not mononoke. So, according to Wikipedia, the word mononoke is used when inanimate objects and spirits of humans and other creatures are together, as a creature. In the movie they also call the girl "Princess Wolf" because she lived with wolfs and thought she was one of them.
What about Kodamas?
Kodamas are spirits that live on some trees and can be seen or heard when somebody dies. This is the simplest explanation of it's meaning. To know more about them here is a detailed history :Kodama, the tree spirit.
These cute creatures were all over the movie and every time they appeared I wanted to grab one and take home.
Guess I'm not the only one in love with them! There are like a lot of pictures of Kodama's plushs, draws, decorated stuff (like shoes and earrings) and toys !!
If you wanna buy one cute kodama like those, here's the etsy store I found:Princess Mononoke Kodama Plush Toys.
**Please remember that Japanese culture is so vast that we cannot say for sure that's the one and true meaning, it would take a long research and we wouldnt be sure anyway**
And you may have figured out that Hime means Princess in Japanese *-*
I found the Mononoke Princess quite cute so thought about some looks would be nice to pretend you are her or what she would use if she didn't live in the forest at this decade.
Princess Mononoke nowadays look
- Headband. The princess was wearing a purple headband so cute that I couldn't forget!
- Then here are the clothes!
This fake two-pice blouse |
The fake two-piece blouse in black |
Or this cute Black Vest with the White Shirt or the White Coat, matching with a nice black skirt.
- For the shoes I though it would be nice boots.
And don't forget the Crystal Pendant Necklace! You can buy one or even do it at home!
What do you think of my choices? Do they look like something she would wear?
-I know, I know this post was very big and I appreciated who was strong enough to read it all haha-
